EARTH DAY NETWORK RECEIVES $150,000 GRANT FROM THE UPS FOUNDATION
WASHINGTON, DC -- October 12, 2009 -- Earth Day Network received a $150,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS). The grant will be used for the National Civic Education Project and its corresponding Education Media Campaign program.
With the assistance of The UPS Foundation, Earth Day Network will expand the National Civic Education Project (NCEP), which combines classroom civic and environmental education with hands-on learning experiences to solve community environmental challenges. In completing these projects in 30 new schools nationwide, Earth Day Network will empower teachers and students to address specific environmental concerns in their communities. Additionally, funding will support the Education Media Campaign program, one of Earth Day Network’s public awareness objectives aimed at illustrating the benefits of environmental education and green schools.
“We are thrilled to once again have the support of The UPS Foundation for the National Civic Education Project,” said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network.” This funding allows us to further pursue our mission of increasing public education and action to address the environmental needs of local and global communities.”
Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Ga., The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: non-profit effectiveness, economic & global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.
In 2008, The UPS Foundation distributed $46.9 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as the Earth Day Network’s National Civic Education Project and Education Media Campaign, providing support for building stronger communities.
“The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities – so we are proud to support Earth Day Network’s efforts to drive awareness and education of environmental issues,” said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation.
