Washington, DC –– The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS, is awarding a $300,000 grant to Earth Day Network, www.earthday.net, for its innovative environmental education campaign.
“Earth Day Network believes in starting environmental education from the ground up, with our students and teachers,” said Kathleen Rogers, Earth Day Network President. “This generous grant from the UPS Foundation will enable our organization to reach across a broader spectrum of educators and to utilize the internet to expand our program. The grant will also enable Earth Day Network to expand its National Civic Education Project, which uniquely combines classroom civic and environmental education with a hands-on learning experience solving a community environmental challenge.”
For more than two decades, Earth Day Network has been a recognized leader in environmental education. The organization has a teachers’ network of over 25,000 and a goal of greening every K-12 school within a generation. Earth Day Network strongly believes in creating personal responsibility for the environment among students around the world. Connecting civic and environmental education allows students to understand how their actions can influence the environmental health of their own communities. Earth Day Network launched the National Civic Education Project to foster solutions to the growing lack of civic and environmental education in today's society.
“Protecting the environment is increasingly important to our company, to our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate around the world, so it is a natural fit for The UPS Foundation,” said Lisa Hamilton, president of The UPS Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Earth Day Network and to support the important work of nurturing our planet.”
Founded in 1951, The UPS Foundation has a tradition of providing support through grant programs and initiatives that help improve the quality of life in communities where UPS employees live and work. Last year, the Foundation donated nearly $46 million to charitable organizations worldwide. For more information on the Foundation, visit http://community.ups.com.
