Get involved with the NCEP
Teachers
EDN is searching for teachers across the U.S. to implement the NCEP at their schools! Multiple teachers from each community will work together to identify specific environmental issues that affect their communities (such as clean air and water, healthy lifestyles and eating habits, energy use, and urban infrastructure) and develop a plan with EDN to engage students in addressing these issues. These efforts will culminate in an end-of-year project, and EDN is offering a generous stipend to those selected for the project’s efforts. If you are a K-12 educator who works with urban youth, we encourage you to apply for the the 2007-2008 academic year!
If you are unable to participate formally in the NCEP, there are still ways you can be involved. Take advantage of our free civic and environmental education lessons and other web recommendations on the Educators’ Network.
Students
If you want your class or student organization to participate in the NCEP, talk with your teacher or advisor about applying. The NCEP will help you effect change in your local school and community by directly engaging leaders and decision-makers about environmental issues.
Parents and Community Members
If you believe this project has a place in your community, please get in touch with teachers you know who would be interested in participating, and encourage them to apply!
Supporters
The NCEP urgently needs your financial support to continue our work in Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, as well as launch future initiatives in Cleveland, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, New York City, and elsewhere! Adopt a school for $15,000 and fund the NCEP for an entire school year! Students and teachers who participated during the pilot phase have been so successful in initiating change that EDN is committed to making the NCEP available across the country, and with your help, we can do it! Contact our Director of Education, Sean S. Miller, at 202-518-0044 or Miller [at] earthday.net for more information.
