Earth Day Network tapped for Annual

Clinton Global Initiative Meeting

EDN focuses on Green Schools and Women and Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC – EDN President Kathleen Rogers has been asked to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting, Sept. 26-28, in New York. She will join other leaders from NGOs, business, foundations, academia and government in the working group sessions on Energy and Climate Change. They’ll be exploring specific steps for cutting emissions and shaping a clean energy future.

EDN was tapped to join the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) in 2006. EDN’s commitment to innovative solutions to the environmental challenges of the 21st century includes Women and Climate Change and the Green Schools movement.

“We are honored to add our expertise and international reach to the Clinton Global Initiative,” said EDN President Kathleen Rogers. “Greater leadership is needed to effectively address climate change and the most vulnerable to it - women and children - need to be empowered. EDN is working to bring about education and policy measures to enable that transformation.”

EDN is a globally-recognized leader in environmental education. Its innovative education initiatives are focused on creating a new generation of environmentally aware and democratically active citizens, as well as building healthy schools and communities. EDN’s online network has grown to 27,000 teachers and the National Civic Education Project (NCEP) is in its second year of success. EDN has carried this momentum into the 2007-2008 school year with the launch of the GREEN Schools Campaign in conjunction with Earth Day school greening projects entitled Healthy Schools, Healthy Communities.

EDN has also partnered with Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) to launch Women and Climate Change, an alliance of women which will leverage their already significant and growing power as investors, philanthropists, consumers, and family decision-makers to jumpstart action on climate change. Women and Climate Change will raise the profile of the profoundly significant impacts of climate change on women.

The two-day Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, Sept. 26-28 in New York, draws together 1,000 world leaders to focus on climate change and energy, education, global health and poverty alleviation. Further information can be found at the Clinton Global Initiative website.
