EARTH DAY EVE CREATE-WITH-NATURE CELEBRATION IN DOWNTOWN BERKELEY
Hands-on art event outside Old City Hall to honor nature and engage public
Berkeley, CA, April 7, 2009 - Environmental artist Zach Pine will host a free create-with-nature celebration in downtown Berkeley on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Using branches, leaves, rocks, shells, bamboo, pinecones, and other natural materials, participants will work alone and in groups to freely create outdoor sculpture. During the event, the grassy area in front of the Maudelle Shirek Building (Old City Hall) will be transformed into a temporary outdoor sculpture gallery.
Pine's motivation for hosting the event comes from a desire to inspire environmental action not only on Earth Day but throughout the year: "My art-making with natural materials brings me a heightened connection with nature that stimulates environmental action in my daily life. I'm hosting this event to share that process of connection, learning, inspiration, and action with others."
Pine is an internationally exhibited environmental artist whose group art-making events, school workshops, and hands-on installations have engaged thousands in the Bay Area.
April 21, 2009 will be proclaimed "Zach Pine Day" in the City of Berkeley at the City Council meeting immediately following the event.
