Bloom High School is a large, urban public high school serving over 1,700 students in grades 9-12. Located in Chicago Heights, Illinois, the school is located in a multicultural and diverse community, where two-thirds of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school is very engaged in environmental work as evident by thriving science and biodiesel clubs co-directed by our lead National Civic Education Project teachers, Jill Krysinski and Barry Latham.
Bloom High School was selected by EDN and Wal-Mart for the “Green Makeover” because of the school’s limited resources, urban location, dedicated and committed staff, supportive community, and environmental initiatives that were already occurring at the school.
