Nearly 15 groups contributed to the “Green Makeover” at Bloom High School through their products, services, and also with their participation at the Earth Fair.
Blacks In Green (BIG) - Blacks In Green is a Community Education & Trade Association working in the new green economy to help link, leverage, and lead health and wealth benefits to communities of color, both here in the United States and abroad.
Environmental Protection Agency - Energy Star Program department conducted an Energy Consumption Benchmark of the school that discovered the school qualified as an Energy Star building and identified key areas where the school can reduce energy use.
Green Market Fundraising - Green Market Fundraising's mission is to promote easy steps that we all can take toward living "green". They raise money for schools and organizations by providing a fundraising program that facilitates the sale of eco-friendly alternatives to day-to-day consumer products
Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center - The Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center is a joint project of the Homewood-Flossmoor and Olympia Fields park districts. The 40-acre nature preserve is home to a diversity of wildlife and habitat types.
Lights 4 Learning - Lights for Learning is an education-based outreach and fundraising program developed to enhance children’s awareness of energy efficiency and vast resources. The three-part program motivates children to accept responsibility, stimulates awareness of energy efficiency, and educates children to become ecologically-minded citizens of tomorrow.
McFarlane Douglas - An interior landscaping and design firm that specializes in enhancing occupant health and experience. McFarlane Douglass provided Bloom with two living walls that will serve as living laboratories teachers will use to enhance the educational experience of students.
National Gardening Association -The National Gardening Association (NGA), founded in 1973, is a nonprofit leader in plant-based education. They serve a national audience with timely materials designed to foster an appreciation for the benefits of gardening. NGA provided a 30-foot Professional Greenhouse, the largest of its kind, to Bloom High School.
Organic Schools Project - The Organic School Project (OSP) is changing the way kids eat one school at a time. OSP provides school age children with a mindful foundation for a healthy lifestyle through wellness programming initiatives, expressed through a three-part mission: Grow.Teach.Feed.
Possibility Place - Possibility Place is a local nursery that specializes in growing native trees and shrubs that are indigenous to northeast Illinois. Ninety percent of its plants' seed is collected in Northern Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Owner Connor Shaw advised and led the completion of four landscaping projects across Bloom’s campus, including tree plantings and upgrades to the front of the school.
Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago - The mission of the Respiratory Health Association is to promote healthy lungs and fight lung disease through research, advocacy, and education. To that end, the RHAMC serves an estimated one million Cook County residents diagnosed with asthma, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and other lung diseases through community-based interventions.
Southeast Environmental Task Force - SETF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the Southeast Side and south suburbs of Chicago by promoting environmental education, pollution prevention, and sustainable development.
Spartan Chemical - With a cleaning product line that is green seal certified to be healthier and more environmentally friendly; the Green Solutions line is a perfect alternative to conventional school cleaning products. Spartan Chemical kindly donated products, trained custodial staff how to use them, and held a booth at the Earth Fair to educate students about green cleaning.
SunAir Systems - SunAir Systems is a small solar PV and wind installation business located in Northern Illinois with a passion to help others in the design, purchase, and installation of these great renewable energy projects for your home or small business.
U. of Illinois Horticulture Center - The Center provides a focal point and support for horticultural instruction and scholarship, as well as public demonstration and outreach. Community members can take part in our many events offered throughout the year. Our students are actively engaged in their experiences, and learn from top-notch faculty.
